By popular demand,
the participants of our Holiday Bash had a day of meaningful
service before our annual evening bash. This new endeavor
sets our new path to fulfill the drive in our volunteers
to get involved, do good deed’s, and share Chelsea’s
unique spirit.
And a great time was had by all!!
In preparation, a whole bunch of our ladies were trained
by Peace Games, a non-profit organization that teaches
public school students conflict resolution
with the art of peace making through games.
Elizabeth and Kristen led the pack, Natalie flew in from
FL just for training! And Peter didn’t mind joining
all those pretty girls. Julia and Abby did double duty
while Biz just kept smiling!
Another bunch readied the classrooms for a day of enhancing
the physical environment of the school with Paint!!!
Classrooms were prepped the day before by anyone who was
at the Morrison’s Thanksgiving dinner table with
David leading the unskilled. Even little Champ (Tommy’s
new puppy) joined the effort. Classrooms were taped off
and a prime coat applied to seven classrooms to get ready
for the big
DAY OF SERVICE.
And then, on Saturday morning, very early morning ...
After we donned our Chelsea Morrison Foundation T-shirts, (designed
by the fabulous Abby!!) filled out our name tags and relished
in the coffee and incredible breakfast spread …
The children of PS 191/Hudson Honors arrived!
A little late, but with gusto!
And the Games Began!!!
- Classrooms on the first floor filled with Peace Games,
taught by our trained volunteers and populated by the
students of PS191 and their Chelsea Morrison Foundation “shadows.”
- Louisa got her ‘cup and string’ game going
with her special past training so that James and Hilary
could focus (and become hit runners).
- Caitlin kept her
side of the table winning while Jenny kept her team in
check.
- Matt kept “the ball in the air” while
Johnny focused for his whole table.
- Mama Leoni (Meredith) kept the room stable.
- Natalie ruled the library/hummingbird rotation while
Susan charmed the young children through the (un)sightful
game.
- Elizabeth and Bizz excited their class with a room
so populated it eventually needed to be disbursed!!
- And Abby and Eliza’s “Acorn Project” became THE room to visit.
Almost everyone left their message, colored and written with crayon, of ‘what
peace means to them’ on the Acorn tree.
Classrooms on the second and third floors filled with
paint!!!
- Ali and Zan grabbed the paint hats and got to it!
- Billy handled the ‘blue room’ and Jan didn’t
quit for a minute.
- Chris and Alex were ‘captains’ with
Hussein–Hudson Honors King of Paint, so everyone
was in good company.
- There was a bit of a surprise when
David and Arvo were kidnapped into the ‘teachers
lounge’ for a fresh (unscheduled) coat of beige,
but just ask – while they have a paint brush in
their hands -- and you will receive.
- All seven classrooms
were bright and beautiful by closing ceremonies.
The Closing Ceremonies were incredibly moving.
- Lead by Eric Dawson, President of Peace Games, all
participants
gathered in the Gymnasium, instructed to form one circle,
and were lead in a Peace Game of how to make a Rain Storm. It
was a beautiful rain storm.
- Emily spoke for all
of us in remembering Chelsea.
- In the end, each of the Chelsea Morrison Foundation
friends
offered a medal to each of the students who joined
with us.
Peace was taught through games...
Classrooms were painted with patience...
Charm was offered by the children...
and
Huge smiles were shared by all!!!
